NOWFASHION cont…
As you can see NOWFASHION uses other sharing mediums such as Facebook and the extremely popular app ‘Instagram’ (recently bought by Facebook) to exhibit the voice of the company. The image above is of an event that the staff of NOWFASHION attended and then shared via Facbeook. This again creates the illusion that the consumer is experiencing exclusive insight into the industry and keeping up to date with events and trends, even though they may physically not be there they can still digitally experience it!

LIVE FASHION INSIGHTS!

NOWFASHION is a website that I came across in my research on live streaming and web videos. This website has images that are streamed live from the event happening at the time. It also has a drop down box of other events that are coming up (featured in the second image above). This website is a great example of how digital media is giving consumers the ability to see things as they happen! New media has evolved the Fashion industry to be even more up beat, changing and diverse than ever before. This website creates great insight for people.

The Role of Media in the Fashion World
Media influence helps consumers to identify and define fashion trends. People of the global markets rely upon the media to “see” new fashion on their behalf. The most eager fashionistas may not physically attend fashion shows. Instead, they read the fashion news on theirlaptops or mobile devices, or watch the show in real time from the comfort of their home.
Technology speeds up the rate at which the images of fashions, accessories and designers’ views reach consumers. Instead of reading published seasonal fashion trends a few months’ before fashions reach the retail level, today’s consumer and retail buyer may see new merchandise around the same time. The media—through television, cable, computer, Internet, blogs and videos—shows potential buyers new ideas. Consumers then go forward to vote with their wallets.
Some fashion trends surprise the fashion industry. For example, a starlet taken to court wears a form-hugging mini dress. Within hours, the dress—for sale at $575—sells out in stores and online.

junglepenetrator asked: You focus on magazines a lot in your blog, dont you think that print media is too saturated with fashion advertising that each brand message gets lost?

Answer:

Hey there ‘Junglepenetrator’ thanks for your question!

I DO love magazines, but I’ve also found that after heaps of research this medium of advertising is still effective. People love having a tangible object to call their own and magazines are not only seen a a touch point for distributing an advertising message but an accessory too. I feel that print media although there is lots of it throughout magazines the brand messages are not lost. In fact I personally think that this type of media is more personable and has longevity. People keep and collect magazines like books!

The bottom line is that fashion advertising works towards appealing to the emotions of the people who would wear specific types of clothing. Whether the elicited feeling is one of prominence or social acceptance this appeal can certainly sell clothes!
As you can see the above image for the brand Guess exhibits an image of desire, wealth and affluence. It is a consumer phycology to feel like if they purchase Guess that they too will be perceived with the same attributes of the brand.

Fashion Advertising

Fashion advertising is a bit different than other types of advertising because the focus is getting people to purchase items that they are going to wear on their body. This means that advertisers have to make the advertisements more enticing to the target audience than usual. This is why it is important that fashion advertising relay the message intended to the audience intended.

There are generally two things that an advertiser wants to relate to their target audience. The first thing is about affluence. For example, all the wealthy people wear this type of clothing. An advertisement trying to relay this message might include a beautiful man or woman with clearly expensive jewelry at a high end restaurant.

This concept can be achieved with print, digital or action media; typically all three media types are used, although you will often find that with high fashion advertisers focus most on print media (as if to imply that those with taste don’t spend a lot of time watching TV).

I came across this controversial fashion campaign for Surf/skate/fashion and had to share!
The campaign is titled “Untitled”.
The campaign aims to return to the brands roots with a focus on grand scale sculptural art, further cementing its position as pioneers of innovative art-driven creative.- Love it ;)

Moreover, like any other filed there is much more awareness in people regarding the editorial critique and commentary which appear in fashion magazines, newspapers on television, internet through fashion websites, social networks and in fashion blogs.
